Urban Health

Why urban health

India is witnessing a volatile growth in the population living in urban areas. It is estimated that nearly 30% of India’s population lives in cities and town. The growth of cities has always been accompanied by growth of slums.

Unlike rural areas which have a Govt. health care structure, urban areas do not have such structure. The rapid expansion of urban population in recent decades has rendered the already inadequate primary health care facilities further deficient.

The policy scenario in India has also been rural centric. This has resulted in relative neglect of urban areas especially the urban poor. This also reflects in inadequate infrastructure, facilities and implementation mechanism for health in urban areas.

The issue of primary health care for urban poor requires immediate attention, thus CDC strives to work in urban health issues to provide sustainable improvement in accessibility to quality health care services to unreached and underserved communities.
